The Center offers a wide range of technologically advanced hearing aids and works with several manufacturers. Center audiologists help patients decide which hearing aid works best for them within their budget. The following is a list of some of the manufacturers most frequently recommended.

* GN Resound
* Oticon
* Phonak
* Siemens
* Starkey
* Unitron

All hearing aids obtained at Pee Dee Speech & Hearing Center have an adjustment period to insure that they are providing the best benefit for your communication needs. At Pee Dee Speech and Hearing, we strive to meet your hearing needs; however, if you are not satisfied, you may return the hearing aids during your adjustment period.

Hearing Aid Styles

1170_CIC.jpgCIC (Completely in the Canal)
This is the smallest type of hearing aid made and is almost invisible in the ear. All the components are housed in a small case that fits far into the ear canal. This takes advantage of the ear's own natural sound-collecting design and offers convenient telephone usage.

CICs are custom made for each ear; however, these hearing aids are restricted to persons with ear canals large enough to accommodate the insertion depth of the instrument into the ear. Also, the CIC style uses a very small battery that requires good manual dexterity. This type of hearing aid is not suitable for persons with severe hearing losses.

A little bigger than the CIC, the ITC hearing aids also fit far into the ear canal. Canal hearing aids use a slightly larger battery than the CIC style. This style is used for mild to moderate hearing losses.

These hearing aids can be used for a wider range of hearing losses. Due to their larger size, ITEs can accommodate larger sound amplifiers and more features such as a telephone switch. They are also easier to handle.

In BTE hearing aids, the electronics are housed in a case that fits behind the ear. Tubing and a custom made earmold direct the sound to the ear canal. Due to its robust design, this style is especially recommended for children. BTE hearing aids can provide more amplification than smaller devices due to the stronger amplifier and the larger battery. This style is available in several colors for hair and skin tone matching.

Hearing Aid Repairs

Pee Dee Speech & Hearing Center is able to perform small in-house repairs, as well as, have the hearing aids repaired through the manufacturer, if necessary.

Hearing Assessment

1170_he-lu300.jpg
Pee Dee Speech and Hearing Center's audiologists complete a full case history to gather significant background information and then perform a variety of specialized tests for infants, children, and adults to assess hearing ability and type of hearing loss. If hearing loss is present, the Audiologist will discuss different options available. A complete report is available for patients, physicians, or other designated recipients. Hearing evaluations usually last one hour and must be performed before a hearing aid is dispensed.

Industrial Hearing Conservation Services

Pee Dee Speech and Hearing Center provides on-site hearing testing to help companies comply with Federal Noise Regulations. Additionally, our audiologist analyzes the results to determine any threshold shifts and notifies the employer of changes in employee hearing, as well as required follow-up procedures. We also offer CAOHC recertification courses for occupational hearing conservationists.
